"Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them." ~ The Inner Game of Life by Timothy Gallwey.
All athletes have a coach to help them unlock the mind barriers. What about at the workplace? Practically every company these days is looking for a coaching program with good reason— in this era of constant change, control-and-command practices among the manager line is no longer “the right way”. Rather, guiding to think through coaching is an essential skill to facilitate employee’s performance and development, to raise up the bar, and to unleash their full potential. Forbes cited that over 70% of individuals who received coaching can benefit from improved work performance, relationships, and more effective communication skills.
Recently, Matchy Ma, our Principal Consultant, delivered a Coaching Program to managers of one of the most recognized international luxury brands. Initially, trainees expressed that they found it challenging to pick up the questioning skills as a coach upon role play demonstrations. Through Matchy’s holistic approaches and high impact training strategies, encompassing thought-provoking games and stimulating hands-on practice for the shaping process, they had gradually mastered the coaching dialogues framework and the power of questioning.
Trainees also learnt how to uncover the unsaid and unleash coachees’ unrealized potential - expanding empathy and showing understanding through deep listening without taking sides during conflict management, guiding them to think and verbalize the views they have deep down, making vague goals specific, etc., Most crucially, they also learnt to invest in others’ growth while developing the self through enhancing their self-awareness. They also built a network of partnerships through peer coaching with their learning buddies.
