"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success." - Henry Ford
An organization creates teams to bring together groups of people with complementary skills and interests to work toward a common goal. Teams are important to businesses as employees share their ideas when they work with each other and fosters innovation. Having a good team atmosphere also motivates employees and creates a more relaxing working environment. Furthermore, employees are shown to be more productive when they work together than when they work alone. However, how can team building activities help a team to perform?
According to Tuckman's "Developmental Sequence in Small Groups", team formation can be categorized into 5 stages: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. In a one-day team building workshop, Talent Academy collaborated with a Hong Kong floor curling organization to deliver a floor curling activity to participants of a mentorship program of an electricity company. With the aim to extend the norming and performing stage, participants reflected their performance during the activity and mentors and mentees got to know each other more. Participants also learned the roles within a team and strategies for the team to work well. Afterward, they shared their experience of meeting with the mentors (mentees) and what they have learned from each other in their meetings.
